Dionaea muscipula ‘B-52’ is a highly sought-after cultivar of the iconic Venus Flytrap, admired for its exceptionally large traps, vivid green growth, and brilliant red interior coloration when grown in strong light. Known as one of the larger Venus Flytrap cultivars, ‘B-52’ produces impressive snap traps lined with tooth-like cilia that quickly close when triggered by insect prey. Its dramatic size and fascinating movement make it a standout in any carnivorous plant collection.
This carnivorous beauty thrives in very bright light to full sun and should be grown in a nutrient-poor carnivorous plant mix such as sphagnum peat and perlite. Keep the growing medium consistently moist to wet using distilled water, rainwater, or reverse-osmosis water. Avoid standard potting soil and traditional fertilizers. Venus Flytraps are temperate plants and require a cool winter dormancy period each year for long-term health.
- Light: Very bright light to full sun (encourages strong growth and vibrant red traps)
- Water: Keep consistently moist to wet; use only distilled, rain, or reverse-osmosis water
- Growth Habit: Compact carnivorous rosette producing large, hinged insect-trapping leaves
- Pet Note: Generally considered non-toxic to pets and children
With its oversized traps, brilliant coloration, and fascinating carnivorous behavior, Dionaea muscipula ‘B-52’ is a collector’s favorite—perfect for adding interactive appeal, unusual texture, and botanical intrigue to any carnivorous plant collection.
